There is a place in Panama that is very special to me for several reasons, it’s the area of Casco Viejo or Casco Antiguo. I am in love with this place because it is filled with history and much of my life changing moments have happened here.
I never thought I would end up living here but I am so happy to be a part of the casco community. I love that you can walk every where, there are so many great restaurant options to enjoy with friends and family as well as quaint coffee places that are fabulous to relax or work, beyond words…the best ice cream (Gran Clement).
Off course, if you are in the mood for fun…well, lets say bars at night get very interesting.
Casco has evolved in so many ways. Nowadays, there are several hotels tourists can stay in, my favourite, American Trade Hotel.
There is also a supermarket, bank, pharmacy to cover all the necessities for people living there or visiting. It is so international, you still live in Panama but yet it feels very European with a tropical flavour.
Finally, I love this place because it is the place I got married to the love of my life, at La Merced, a church from 1680, so much history and keeper of really special moment of true love. And now, with Sergio, it is the place where our son will grow up.
Any ways, Casco is very small, easy to walk, safe and it is very much alive at night so it won’t be a problem trying to find your way around this part of town.
**Additional info: make sure you book restaurants in advance.
